Coffee to Water Ratio: 1:1 - 1:2.5

Grind: Fine

The Process:

  1. For our blend Top Hat we start with 19g of coffee.

  2. Dose will vary depending on your espresso setup. Use an amount of coffee that comfortably fills your basket.

  3. In 29-32 seconds we like to yield 40-42g of Top Hat espresso.

  4. If it’s too acidic then increase the yield, if it’s bitter then decrease the yield.

  5. Adjust your grind finer for more depth of flavor. Make the grind coarser for a more delicate shot.

    Single Origin - For single origin coffees the overall range varies a bit more and depends a lot on how it’s roasted.

    Light Roast - For lighter roasted coffees you’ll find a better balance of flavor with higher yields and longer contact times. Example: 18g coffee to 42g yield in 28-32 seconds.

    Dark Roast - The darker stuff can take a smaller yield and less time. Our Squid Ink roast makes for a lovely ristretto. Example: 18g coffee to 18g yield in around 24-27 seconds.
